lucky dragons - long form

Throughout the 90 minutes of Long Form Lucky Dragons follow a process, first explored on their 2011 release Shape Tape, where spectral information from source material (in this case, modular synthesizer) is organised into simple harmonic shapes - an open auto-tuning that does not discriminate between signal and noise. The result is a shimmering plane of harmony, an agreement of frequencies that extends above and below the range of audible perception. As any shape stretched towards an infinite length becomes a line, this is a flattening of form - music made as simple as possible.

tim coster - a place in the sun

This c32 cassette (Factory dubbed & printed Chrome, Dolby B) collects five tracks which more or less reflect pieces I was working on as recordings and in live performances over the last year. Recorded mainly with Eurorack modular synthesizer, endless "answer-phone" cassettes, effects and a few other gadgets, this is my first long-ish solo release since Star Mill in 2007. The tape comes with a download-code for mp3s (there was a slightly earlier CDR version that's basically identical).

the greens, pinks, and whites

one freezing afternoon last berlin winter, these wobbly songs were recorded by jason honea (from the shitty listener, and some other jewelled antler bands) & tim coster. spilling a traveller's collection of thumb pianos, bells, tapes, guitar & synth onto the wooden floor and making them into delicate shapes, moving parts around till it eventually all turns to ice. with fake-handwritten set-list by jason, and a cover illustration by los doros.

metal rouge - live

last ever metal rouge cdr. this album documents part of helga & andrew's first southwest usa tour, here multiple version of the same two songs are rendered wildly different via on-fire telekinetic improvisation, and shaped forcefully by local parapsychological conditions. a nice follow up to the first ever metal rouge cdr on the CLaudia label a few years back.

pro team - demo

Another recording from Dunedin, this time from January 2010, with the casual line-up of Oliver of the Sky, Eves (from PQRST), and Tim Coster. Inspired by a recent meal of mis-labelled tofu, and mapping communal practice-room acoustics with images of slow dusk, small bells, skateboarding, finger clicks, electricity, candles, travel, pure-data, and portable telephones. Recorded on a multitude of handheld devices, from every direction. Cover by O, Mix by E.

paeces - remix

A new release of an archival Paeces piece (not sure exactly when/where this was recorded or who is playing on it - although I'd imagine it's the full Melbourne quartet), not strictly a remix, but enthusiastically overdubbed (um.. not with beats) by the band, apparently after attending a lecture on sampling & hip-hop. A new take on the typical zeitgeist new/weird electro-acoustic drone & rattle, but for the multilayered urban environment. Nasty.
